Pete was a Dick

Pete attempting to dj from the wrong side of the decks

Pete's started a blog, normally someone called Pete would get no love but this Pete happens to be producer extraordinaire previously known as Mr Dick. He's got that heat so go CHECK IT OUT. The Tactical Thinking albums about to drop too and let me tell thee it's FIRE! (also apologies the TT boys did me a SICK exclusive that I've still not managed to play on the show, Monday I promise gents!)

Louis Den @ Jazz Cafe this Friday

Redbeards launch was dope last night, shouts to Beard, Kos, Raul, Kela, Myke, Docmini, SK, Sonny, Sammy Stealth, Percy, Malicious, Bambino, Bass6, Lewis, Taharka, Spatz, Mr FX and everyone who came out, Beards voice was gone by the end of the night.

Any London heads who've been slacking and not made it to a Louis Den Beat Cypher yet have no excuses as we make the trip down for the Orphans Of Kush Launch. The 4 selected producers are all going to be playing beats straight out of their chosen equipment and the line up is sick....Mr Thing, Apollo, Jaisu and Kela with performances from Orphans of Kush and DJ's Sarah Love, Konny Kon and Roast hosted by Jehst it's going to be a big night! See you there

TRUTH Procrastinat(k)ing FREE DOWNLOAD

No radio show last night due to technical problems in the studio I'm told should be fixed for next weeks so fingers crossed, as you've got no radio show to download heres something else for you to check..I thought I'd posted his back when it first dropped but looks like I didn't so my bad and better late than never (or go revisit it if you got it a few months back and haven't played it for a while). This is surprisingly Truths debut ep and a mighty fine listen from start to finish it is too, plus as one of th hardest working people in this country (organising Rapsploitation Sessions which is one of the best nights in the UK, runs the website and does promo for peeps I'm not actually surprised). Featuring the additional vocal talents of Kosyne, Sonnyjim, Grimlok and Conflix and production is handled by Archimendes, Charlie Mac, Hoaxman, Sivey, Mr Laws, Mazzie, Prolifik & Truth himself whos no slough on the boards. Kimbo hooked up some nice artwork and best of all it's FREE so you've no excuses, "Pass That" is my joint (no pun intended)

Woollyback Done Good

It's always great when you can be proud of you friends but this is pretty special. I don't want to bore you with lots of history (damn we've been friends for over half my life!) but I was there when he got his first set of decks so to see DJ Rasp go onto win the DMC UK Supremacy Title this year is super props and fully deserved as I know how much he's practiced and his genuine love for the art and a really humble guy.

A much younger Rasp & Cro @ Mr KD's around 2001 (please note the use of 2 turntables and one mixer GULLY)

Here's wishing all the best to Rasp for the competition tonight...if he wins it gets really interesting as Birmingham's DJ Switch is the current World Title holder which would make an interesting battle!

DJ Nice 100x Mix and review

I've been threatening to get some records reviewed for a while now, one such record is the 100x "Whom Shall I Fear?" 2LP of previously unheard Philly goodness out of the 215 Archives recorded between 1993 - 1995. I'm not going to get mad deep on it's content, dark mid 90's boom bap with filtered bass lines and some crazy emceeing is the order of the day. 100x are a large crew consisting of 7 members so it's quite easy to see why the music industry fronted on them as it was pre Wu etc and going for a single artist or 2/3 man group would be a much safer bet. This actually works to our advantage though as were treated to 18 hardcore tracks that haven't been tampered with by a label, A&R or other outside influences. Just download DJ Nice's mix and digest it (feel free to give him some feedback too), Flowers In The Attic is my ish with Bad Newz murdering a sample you should all be familiar with and Belly Of Hell (some of Are-Ems lines are just plain wrong).
You can still buy the 2LP HERE, it comes with a dope CD by Nicky Butters including more unreleased material (rumour has it some may see the light of day) and the Early Years EP 12" (6 tracks from 88 - 91). I've been listening to the album pretty solidly for over a month and it's one of those rare beasts that I'm still not bored with and always catch something new, now tell me one album you've done that with recently?

MI Radio w/ Peaks & Vice Live 07-09-2009

More technical issues at the studio meant that the show had to be recorded as 2 separate files (like I used to do) the advantage of this is that the music is in better quality (192) but the disadvantage is you need to download 2 files so please let me know which you prefer in the rarely used comment box below. Also got the audio back for last weeks show so uploading that now

Jon's A Moron

Free download and biog stuff after the video, I'm liking it

New Haven, CT rapper Cambatta returns to the hip hop scene with a new single and video for “Oxymoron”. After the success of his “The Visionary” mixtape he is now working on his next project. Cambatta has worked with many of today’s most rated underground artists including Sha Stimuli, Skyzoo, Torae and many others. The music video was filmed in Connecticut and was directed by DJ Nice. The track was produced by UK producer Jon Phonics a regular name on the Louis Den Beat Battles scene who is also about to release his second production mixtape next month featuring a host of UK and US artists. Listen to Oxymoron and watch the video on the following links.

I don't have another picture of Jon so heres a video of him battling Budgie at Louis Den Beat Cypher 05. I'll have an update on the league soon too

R.A. The Rugged Man

I thought he'd been quiet for a while, if you don't know theres not many people messing with RA when it comes to this rap ish, no really. Check the vids for proof and did I mention he completely stole the show at Hip-Hop Kemp a few years back with no dj or hypeman (no DJ makse me skeptical at the best of times so for him to hold it down on his own was something pretty special)

Lessons

and he kinda steals the show on this one, although I'm not a massive Jedi Mind Tricks fan but it's a CRAZY verse

Chains is dope too

Soundsci Album of the Month & HHC Digital 4

Thats right the new issue of HHC is floating round cyberspace, you can download or read it here. They were impressed with the SOUNDSCI DIG FOR VICTORY EP and awarded it ALBUM OF THE MONTH! It also features on DJ Switch's mix when they asked which track is his favourite in the mix he said "It would probably be Soundsci's 'The Remedy', It’s got that jazz vibe about it, and it’s also a straight-up track you can drop at the peak of the party."
